10DLC Overview
10DLC (10-digit long code) is a regulation developed by mobile carriers to protect their consumers from receiving spam messages and unsolicited text message communications from businesses. Users must have the option to opt-in or opt-out of receiving text messages from businesses.
Complying with 10DLC
ClearCompany is committed to ensuring compliance for your recruiting team, applicants, and candidates. ClearCompany has registered our company and use cases with the mobile carriers used for our ClearText feature, as well as added in-platform controls, in order to comply with 10DLC. These controls include a Candidate Opt-In/Opt-out feature, which allows a candidate to decide if they would like to receive SMS messages from our system.
The Opt-In/Opt-Out feature is enabled for all texting customers (ClearText and TTA). This feature is not optional for texting customers and does not apply to customers who do not use our texting tools.
10DLC & ClearCompany Functionality
When a candidate selects to apply for a position, they will be able to opt-in on the first page of the application. Any candidates who apply using Text-to-Apply will automatically be opted-in to receive text messages since they initiated the conversation.
Candidate Opt-In Status
From the candidate profile and the edit candidate info page, users can see the status of the candidate. Below are the statuses:
-
Opted-Out Candidate: The candidate has opted not to receive text messages.
-
Opted-In Candidate: The candidate has opted to receive text messages.
-
Opt-In Unknown: The candidate has not made a decision.
Note:
If a candidate has opted out of receiving text message communication, they may communicate a change to the recruiter. The Recruiter will be able to navigate to the candidate profile and confirm that the candidate has given permission to receive text messages. Users cannot opt in a candidate without their approval.
Considerations
- Candidates are able to opt out by using texts: "STOP," "QUIT," "END," "REVOKE," "OPT OUT," "CANCEL," "UNSUBSCRIBE".
- Once a candidate has requested to be opt-out, ClearCompany will stop texts immediately.
- Clarification Message: One one-time text may be sent within 5 minutes to confirm whether the candidate wants to stop all messages.

One Click SMS Opt-In & Messaging
From the candidate profile, users are able to compose and send an SMS message along with a one-time opt-in request to candidates with an Unknown status.
Keep in Mind:
- The opt-in invite can only be sent once.
- Once the opt-in request and message are sent, no further messages can be sent until the candidate opts in or the opt-in request fails.
- Queued messages can be deleted anytime before they are sent.
- Bulk one-click opt-in & messaging is not supported for candidates with Unsubscribed texting opt-in statuses
- If no response is received within X days (default = 5), any queued messages will be automatically canceled.
- Recruiters will be notified when a pending SMS
- Is successfully sent
- Has failed
- Has expired and is canceled due to non-response, or if the candidate unsubscribes.
Sending Candidate Opt-In Request
To send candidates with the opt-in request:
- Navigate to the candidate profile.
- Next to the candidate's phone number, click the message Icon to see the status of the candidate.
- For Unsubscribed Candidates, the verbal consent confirmation is required before the opt-in request and SMS can be sent. Users will have to check that they received permission before sending the permission request.
- Send a permission request. Users can customize the message that is sent.
F.A.Q.
The candidate will be able to log into the Jobs Portal and will see the following section. Changing the Yes or No answer will update their status to Opted-In or Opted-Out, respectively.
