What is Text-to-Apply?
Text-to-Apply allows you to select a dedicated ten-digit local phone number for inbound applications and create a unique-to-the-org "apply code" for each requisition for which you'd like to offer text-based applications.
How is Text-to-Apply used?
Candidates who see a job posting will text the dedicated number with their application code. The candidate will receive a series of texts to collect the required information (first name, last name, & email), followed by a link to the application for the requisition. Recruiters may then follow up with candidates easily using ClearText.
Text-to-Apply can be enabled both when creating a new requisition and when editing a requisition that's already open.
ClearText and Text-To-Apply are both paid features, if you are interested in these features, reach out to your ClearCompany Representative.
Benefits of Text-to-Apply
- Engage non-tech candidates. This is a simplified way of collecting candidate data through a familiar device and text messages. This should lower the barrier to entry for many non-tech-savvy applicants.
- Expand organizations’ mobile recruiting options. For clients who have high mobile traffic, this can work in conjunction with ClearText to provide a deeper set of features to engage candidates on the mobile devices they’re using to seek job opportunities.
- Engage candidates who work in a mobile capacity. Think construction or outside sales- types of positions where candidates might be on the road in their current roles. This creates a lower barrier for those candidates to engage with opportunities throughout the day.
- Ensure candidates can still apply during times of crisis. If a recruiting team is working with candidates who may not have computers outside regular working hours or conditions, this is a way to ensure there is a pathway to easily apply.

Fields to Fill out
Regardless of whether you're creating or editing a requisition to enable Text-to-Apply, enabling it will expand a few options for you to fill out:
-
Phone Number: When Text-to-Apply is being used, a phone number will need to be purchased through your Customer Success Manager; this is the phone number that candidates will text when applying. If you have more than one office, you might want local phone numbers for each location. Use the dropdown next to the number to select the one you want to use.
- If using Text-to-Apply with Canadian numbers, your ClearCompany representative will have to purchase a local Canadian number in order for the feature to work.
- Application Code: The Application Code is the unique code that specifies which requisition a candidate is applying to. You can use the same phone number with different application codes for different requisitions.
-
Application Completion setting: The final setting for Text-to-Apply allows you to determine whether or not candidates who text the chosen number have to complete your full application to complete the application process. If "Yes" is selected, the candidate will receive a link to the full application. If "No" is selected, the candidate will only need to enter their first name, last name, and email address.
- Once you have Text-to-Apply enabled with a phone number & Apply Code selected, you will need to display the phone number and Apply Code wherever you want to advertise. For example, you might include it at the top of your job description to catch attention when candidates are scrolling through a job board. You can write something like, "Servers needed! Text APPLY to 857-386-7973".
- You can also use the "Servers needed! Text APPLY to 857-386-7973" message to advertise wherever you typically advertise your jobs, such as in a newspaper or an online ad.
- You can also use an image of QR code to advertise wherever you typically advertise your jobs, such as in a newspaper, online ad, or poster at your location. Learn more about how to utilize the QR code here.

This looks like an excellent feature and I will be using it immediately! The idea of being able to offer candidates the ability to apply for a job via text is exciting, especially in this era. It will be much easier for the candidates and, I hope, allow me to recruit faster, too. I will be sure to offer feedback .
Best,
Mark Jacobs
