Answer Builder Overview
An “Answer” is a chart or table of data that can be shared and edited. Answer Builder offers two solutions that automatically generate customizable visualizations, ensuring an engaging and thorough data analysis experience. The two options available are:
-
Build Manually: The Answer Builder allows users to select their desired attributes from a list, after which an auto-generated visualization will be created based on their selections. A search bar displays the tokens and offers suggestions to aid the process. Each attribute will have a description and related synonyms that give more context to the attributes.
-
Ask AI:The AI Answer Builder leverages AI to create the most intuitive experience for non-technical users. Users can use a "Question Bar," to search for answers to their questions. The user's question will automatically be converted from “natural language” into an SQL query. An auto-generated visualization will then be presented as their answer.
- ClearInsights AI Conversational: ClearInsights enhanced our AI Answer Builder by introducing asking follow-up questions in plain language with our updated AI-powered interfacenallowing users to drill deeper, refine their queries, and uncover more insights seamlessly.
Conversational UI
The Question Bar allows you to ask questions in natural language, and our AI system will interpret your queries to provide precise answers.
Steps to Use:
- Ask Your Question: Start by typing your question into the Question Bar. Begin with something simple, such as "How many candidates?".
- AI Interpretation: ClearInsights will analyze your question, identify relevant attributes, and gather the necessary information from our database.
- Display Information: ClearInsights presents a new page with detailed answers based on the attributes it identified.
- Using Change Analysis to drill deeper into candidate behavior with the ClearInsights Agent by simply asking 'why.' The Agent will run a Change Analysis based on the request.

Creating an Answer
-
From the ClearInsights dashboard, click on the Answer Tab, then Create an Answer.
-
Data Panel: The Data Panel lists all available data columns, categorized by Measures, Attributes, and Dates. For more information on the data panel, refer to ClearInsights Max: Search & Filters.
- A single click will open a modal, providing additional context for the attribute, including a description and related synonyms.
- Double-click to add it to an answer.
-
Click Go.
- A visualization will appear based on the data selected.
- Click into the AI Question Bar and type out your Question. It is best practice to ask explicit questions, not general questions that require interpretation. To learn more about best practices refer to ClearInsights Max: Best Practices.
- Click Get Answer.
- To ensure AI understands your question and you are viewing the correct data, double-check the query tokens before proceeding with your analysis. These can only be changed by rephrasing your question.
- If you're happy with the results, verify with the tool by clicking the Green Check. This helps the system improve future answers.
- If the data does not reflect what you were searching for, click the Red X.
- Submitting will inform the system, but to improve further, you can provide more insights.
- Here, you can manually adjust the Answer using Answer Builder to clarify what data matches the original question. Once you've adjusted your search queries to match your question, click Submit.
- Optional: provide more details by identifying what fragments and related tokens match and don't match. Click the green check or red x for each fragment.
-
Once you've completed your fragment feedback, click Done.
Provide feedback if the AI-extracted query was right or wrong: Users can provide feedback to the AI answer suggestions and to correct it and further train the machine learning model.
Answer Builder Options
- Toggle between table view and chart
If a chart is visualized, users have the option to change it into a table instead.
- Save or pin (Save adds it to your Answer tab. Pinning adds it to a Liveboard)
-
Users can “Save” or “Pin” an Answer to a Liveboard. These are independent actions—changes to one won’t affect the other.
- Saved Answers work well for one-off or ad-hoc questions. Saved Answers are located on the Answers tab.
- Pinned Answers are ideal for consistently tracking key metrics or grouping related Answers. Pinned Answers appear on their respective Liveboards.
- Copy
Users can copy an Answer to make a duplicate. This will allow users to make changes to one or another but keep a copy of the original data they searched for.
- Download
-
You can download an Answer as a PNG or export the data in CSV or Excel format. Access these options via the ellipses menu or when viewing underlying data. Excel and CSV are limited to 1,000,000 rows as a PDF, CSV, or XLSC (Excel).
Show Underlining Data
Users can see the most granular details of a given result set in an unaggregated view when selecting Show Underlying Data. Underlying data displays 1,000 rows at a time. Scroll to the bottom to load the next 1,000 rows.
- Delete/Remove Answer
-
Deleting an Answer Pinned on a Liveboard
- The pinned Answer is removed from the Liveboard and is gone permanently. This doesn’t affect any other saved or pinned Answers. If it was the last Answer on the Liveboard, the Liveboard will prompt the user to add a new Answer.
-
Deleting an Answer Saved Outside the Liveboard
- The saved Answer is removed from the Answer and Favorites tabs (if applicable). Since saved Answers exist separately from Liveboards, this doesn’t impact Liveboards.
-
Deleting an Answer Pinned on a Liveboard
- Private vs Visible to All Recruiters
By default, all Answers you create are private. Click the lock icon at the top right to make them visible to all users with Recruiter permissions. Once visible, they will appear on the Answer tab for all Recruiter users in ClearInsights.
Note: Only the Answer Author can make edits to the Answer at this time.
- Share
Users can share Liveboards, Answers, Custom Reports, and Prebuilt Liveboards. To share a Liveboard or Answer an organization must have ClearInsights Max. To share a Custom Report, an organization must have a Custom Report. To learn more, refer to: ClearInsights Share Analytics.
- Change Analysis
Change Analysis allows organizations to compare any two data points in a visualization for change and identify key change drivers from the underlying attribute columns. To learn more: Change Analysis.
- Legend Interactions
-
The legend can be hidden/unhidden; double-click to hide all others. You can also customize a color in the legend.
- Drill-Down
-
Users can use their answers to learn more about the data used in their search by drilling down. Drilling down allows users to see more information about the columns within their search. If they own the liveboard, they can drill down to the data beneath.
Users who share the liveboard with can also drill down, provided they also have access to the data on which the liveboard was based. ClearInsights will suggest columns for you to drill down on.

F.A.Q.s
Saved Answers are a great way to get a quick answer for a data question. This is helpful if a user only wants the one answer and doesn't want to add it to a Liveboard. This is great for ad-hoc questions someone may receive from a manager or other department.
It is important to know that a saved Answer and an Answer pinned to a Liveboard are completely independent of each other. If you save an Answer and then pin it to your Liveboard, changing either one will not affect the other. This is helpful when a user may want to copy an Answer from a Liveboard and adjust it without changing that Liveboard's Answer.
