Data Lakes: Frequently Asked Questions

How can I confirm that our BI (Business Intelligence) tool connects to Snowflake?

Here is a list of provided BI tools and technologies that are known to provide native connectivity to Snowflake.

Can I use Snowflake Data Access without a BI Tool?
Yes, you can utilize SnowSight, which distills Snowflake’s powerful SQL support into an easy-to-use experience without needing a 3rd party BI tool. Please check out this article: Get Started with Snowsight!
Will ClearCompany write the queries I need in our BI Tool/Snowsight?
No. With the purchase of the Data Lake Product, ClearCompany will provide the Data Dictionary and a provisioned account. It is the responsibility of your organization to write your own queries needed for the reports, widgets, and/or dashboards you are looking to create.
I need a report on data that is not currently available in Snowflake. Can this be added?
Possibly. Not all data and data tables are in Snowflake currently. If you are looking to report on data that is not currently available, please reach out to your ClearCompany Representative. We will need to understand what you are looking for, and then we will conduct a feasibility study to see if the data can be added. If it can be we will provide a timeline on when the data will be added.
How often is the Data Dictionary updated?
The Data Dictionary is a Google Document, meaning each time you access the Google Doc, you will see the most up-to-date version. The Dictionary will be updated any time new data is added to Snowflake and if any changes have been made to the table structures in Snowflake. You will be alerted when new data is added to Snowflake and the documentation is updated.
Are there any caps on the amount of data or queries I can run?
At this point in time, no.
