Using LinkedIn Unified Search

Follow

LinkedIn Unified Search allows users on a Recruiter System Connect-enabled integration to initiate a candidate search from within ClearCompany or LinkedIn Recruiter, rendering a list of relevant results from both systems that best match that search query. In order to use this feature, you must first enable it on your LinkedIn Recruiter System Connect integration.

How to access the Unified Search tool

Reminder: Usage of the feature requires that you are logged into ClearCompany and LinkedIn Recruiter within separate tabs of the same browser window. If you haven't enabled this feature on your Recruiter System Connect integration, please do so now by following these instructions.

There are two ways you can access the Unified Search tool:

  1. In ClearCompany, locate the search bar in the top right of your ClearCompany homepage.

  2. Click the drop-down and select LinkedIn Search.

Alternatively,

  1. In ClearCompany, navigate to Tools > Recruiting.

  2. Click the Search tab. LinkedIn Unified Search should be the first tab displayed by default.

Note: If you initially receive an error message stating "Unified Search not enabled," follow the steps outlined in this article to ensure the feature is correctly enabled. Upon verifying, return to the above steps and attempt accessing once more.

Available search criteria

Unified Search will allow you to use the following search parameters to source candidates from both systems within ClearCompany:

Open to Work
Filter results to only show candidates that have indicated on their LinkedIn profile "Open to new opportunities".
Location
A list of location strings where candidates are based. The location would match the member's profile location, and not any of a candidate’s interested locations e.g. “Boston, Massachusetts”.
Job Title
Title a candidate currently works under e.g. “Human Resources Generalist”.
Keywords
General keyword search across all candidate fields.
Only Candidates in my ATS
Filter results for candidates that are currently in ClearCompany (As a candidate).

While there is no explicit field for entering a candidate's name, you can enter the name in the Keyword section and it will return results.

How to conduct a candidate search

  1. From the left side of the page, enter your desired search criteria.

Unified Search also supports entering multiple criteria using a Boolean search. Boolean search is a search process that allows you to insert phrases such as AND, OR, NOT to limit, broaden, and refine search results.

Tips for conducting a Boolean search

    1. AND: Placing AND between search keywords will allow results to include both (or all) of the keywords. The search terms that follow the AND must appear in the search results.

    2. OR: You can add OR when you'd like to search for something that has the possibility of including either set of search terms. All combination possibilities will appear.

    3. NOT: When you do not want a specific search term to appear in the results, include NOT after the preferred search term. This will prevent the latter terms from appearing.

    4. Quotation marks “”: To search for an exact phrase, use quotation marks around that phrase.

    5. Parentheses (): Allow separation of the terms and preference to be given to specified ones.

Boolean search example: "Human Resources" AND (Generalist OR Specialist)

  2. After entering your criteria into the Keyword, Location, and Job Title fields, you must hit Enter in order for them to save.

  3. Select Apply Filters to return results for your search.

Searches are currently unable to be saved at this time.

How to act upon search results

There are two categories of results that will be returned to you, organized in separate dropdown menus on the results page.

  1. Non-LinkedIn members matched in your ATS
These are applicants that already have candidate profiles associated with your organization's requisitions and do not have a LinkedIn member profile. You have two actions that can be taken on these candidates.
    • Applications: If they have filled out an application, you will be able to see how many. Upon clicking the word Applications, you will see a pop-up stating which jobs they've applied for.
    • Candidate Profile: Clicking the candidate's name will open their ClearCompany Candidate Profile in a new tab.
  2. Matches on LinkedIn
Users with LinkedIn member profiles matching your search criteria that are not yet associated with your organization on ClearCompany will be shown here.

The actions you can take are:
    • LinkedIn member profile: Clicking the candidate's name will open a preview of their LinkedIn member profile on the same page.
    • Activity: If you have previously viewed the candidate before, you can see how many times and how long ago.
    • Send InMail: The candidate can be sent InMail directly from within ClearCompany.

    • Save to Job: This gives you the ability to save the candidate to a specific requisition within ClearCompany. Similar to the 1-Click Export (Export to ATS) feature in your LinkedIn Recruiter account.
