Copy an existing requisition to quickly start a new job opening without rebuilding all the details from scratch. Copying is perfect when you need to replace an employee, hire for the same role again, or make minor changes. If you are creating a completely different position, starting from an official template is a better fit.
You need requisition edit permissions or an active HR Admin permission if your organization requires templates for requisition creation.
Requisition copy prerequisites
Role differences: Before copying, check that the original job's responsibilities match the new role.
TIP
If you copy the same requisition often, ask your HR Admin whether a requisition template would serve the team better long term.
Requisition copying behavior
Review how specific fields handle data during the duplication process to ensure your new record is accurate:
- Requisition title: Transfers the original title and adds a "Copy:" prefix.
- Details tab fields: Copies all custom and standard fields from the original requisition.
- Job board posting settings: Transfers all existing posting options automatically.
- Open date: Updates to the current calendar date automatically.
- Requisition ID: Retains the original identification number if the auto-populate requisition ID setting is enabled, a new ID is added.
- Self-scheduling links: Clears this field completely so you can set up new links after saving.
- Candidates and applications: Clears all historical records because candidate data never transfers to a new requisition.
When copying a requisition with Text to Apply enabled, the application code is automatically cleared in the new copy. This ensures each requisition has a unique code and protects the original requisition's settings.
Copy a requisition
To copy an existing requisition and update its details:
- Open the requisition you want to copy.
-
Select the Details tab, then select Copy Requisition.
- Review the pre-populated fields and update anything that needs to change for the new role, such as the Hiring Manager, Location, or opening details.
- Remove the placeholder text in the requisition title. The copied requisition opens with "Copy:" added to the beginning of the original title.
- Click Save & Close to save as a draft, click Posting Options to open it immediately, or send it for approval.
Confirm your new job opening
When you save the copy, the new requisition opens automatically.
- Confirm that the title no longer shows the Copy prefix.
- Remove any placeholder text.
- Update details to reflect the new role.
The requisition appears in your requisitions list and is ready to be edited, submitted for approval, or posted to job boards.
