What are automated reference checks?

Automated Reference checks allow recruiters to quickly contact candidate references. Hiring team members can check the status of reference checks and easily view reference responses from the candidate profile. This will help ensure that you are hiring the best candidate. We recommend capturing the reference information as you normally would,  which includes via the application, email, or phone. We include standard performance-based questions or you can edit questions so they’re customized to your organization.

What tasks do reference checks support?

  1. Send templated emails with specific questions to references directly from the candidate profile.
  2. Hiring teams can quickly see who has responded and what their feedback is on the candidate profile.
  3. You can access this data anytime you need to in the future, in the latest events and Timeline in the candidate profile.

Navigating to automated reference checks

  1. From the candidate profile, navigate to Actions. Action.png
  2. From the Actions menu, select "Send Reference Checks"Send
  3. Fill out the information for the reference and the message. We provide a list of questions you can ask but it can be customized to your preference.Reference
  4. Navigate to Send. An email will be sent to the references listed.Send.png
  5. From the candidate profile, navigate to the latest events or the timeline in order to see the status of the email.Timeline.pngEvents.png

Best Practices

  1. Reach out at the appropriate stage in the recruiting process
    1. Candidates don't want to contact their references or share reference info until they are far along in the process.
  2. Ask the proper questions that will help narrow if this candidate is the right choice. Questions should be related to the role that you are hiring for. For example:
    1. What were the person's biggest strengths?
    2. What were the person's biggest areas for improvement?
    3. Would this candidate succeed in this role?
    4. What skills does this person possess that would make them a good fit for this role?
  3. Keeping track of which candidates were asked this information.
    1. With ClearCompany the information is readily available in the Timeline and Candidate Profile.
