HRSG Competency Update

Follow

We’re updating the competency libraries available in ClearCo Competencies will continue to be fully supported, including any custom competencies your team has created. The key change is that we’ll be transitioning away from the HRSG-supplied competency library and introducing a brand new ClearCo competency library.

This update ensures your historical data remains accessible and intact.

What does this mean for competencies?

Starting in mid-2026, the way HRSG competencies are supported in ClearCo will change:

  • As of July 1, 2026, HRSG competencies will no longer be supported in the ClearCo platform (unless you contract directly with HRSG).
  • A new ClearCo competency library will be available soon for you to use.
  • Custom competencies will continue to be fully supported, so you can create and manage competencies tailored to your organization.

You’ll be able to choose how—and when—you transition, based on what works best for your team.

What happens to HRSG competencies?

Through June 30, 2026

  • You can continue using HRSG competencies exactly as you do today.
  • HRSG competencies can still be added to Roles, Scorecards, and Reviews.

As of July 1, 2026

  • HRSG competencies will be removed from active use.
  • They will no longer be available to add to new Roles, Scorecards, or Reviews.
  • Historical data will remain available.
    • Any scorecards or reviews created before July 1, 2026, that included HRSG competencies will still be accessible for reference.
  • HRSG competencies will no longer pull into:
    • Date-based review cycles that begin on or after July 1.
    • Event-based review assignments with a review start date on or after July 1.
  • To include HRSG competencies in an event-based review this quarter:
    • Confirm the employee’s assignment by June 30.
    • Start the review no later than June 30.

This ensures continuity and preserves your historical performance data.

What are your options moving forward?

If your company currently uses—or plans to use—HRSG competencies, you have several paths forward. You can choose the option that best aligns with your timeline, resources, and long-term competency strategy.

Option 1: Transition to the new ClearCo competency library

Our ClearCo Competency Framework is now available in your account.

  • The ClearCo Competency Directory provides an overview of which competencies we are offering in the new library and their definitions. It provides the mapping for HRSG competencies to the new ClearCo Competency. It also provides suggested competencies for industries.
  • The Competency Framework Library provides the details of all our new competencies-- which include the definition, levels, and interview questions. Detailed mapping tables are provided to show how competencies from HRSG align to their ClearCo equivalents for both the Basic and Comprehensive editions. It also includes 59 additional competencies developed to address gaps and reflect the evolving demands of today's workforce.

To review competencies from the ClearGo Framework Library and Directory, see the ClearCo Competency Directory.

1a. ClearCo-led mapping (recommended)

We handle the transition for you with minimal manual effort from your team.

  • We map your existing HRSG competencies to the new ClearCo competency library.
  • You receive a PDF that shows the new competencies and how they align to HRSG competencies.
  • After you review and approve the mapping, we automatically update your competencies.

With this option:

  • You don’t need to manually add or update competencies.
  • You don’t need to edit Roles that include competencies.
  • ClearCo manages the entire update for you.

Important

This automatic mapping applies to all HRSG competencies in your account. You can’t select only some competencies to be updated while leaving others unchanged.

If you have decided you want ClearCo to automatically migrate all your in-use HRSG competencies to our new ClearCo competencies, please continue reading to learn more about what you need to do.

  • ClearCo will update all your in-use HRSG competencies on the selected date. (This means you cannot choose which competencies you would like to migrate. It is either all your HRSG competencies are updated to the new ClearCo competencies, or none.)
  • We will be offering migration dates on the evenings of June 3rd, June 10th, June 17th, and June 24th. (Stay tuned for the exact timing of when your migration will run.)
  • Please opt in to this migration by selecting one of the available dates here. (We will not migrate your account if you do not select a date.) If you choose to migrate and select a date, we will be in touch as it gets closer regarding the specific timing.
  • During the evening of your competency transition, no users in your organization should launch performance reviews or scorecards that include a Company Competency Review Section or Role-Based Competency Review Section.
  • The migration form will close on Tuesday, June 16th. Please ensure you select an available date by then.

When will the competency migration happen?

The migration will run overnight or during evening hours to reduce disruption to your team.

Will the migration replace competencies in my existing scorecards and reviews?

No. Existing scorecards and reviews will not be automatically replaced or updated.

These competency sections stay the same in your templates. The migration only affects which competencies populate when a new scorecard or review is created. What to expect:

  • Scorecards or reviews created before the migration will continue using HRSG competencies.
  • Scorecards or reviews created after the migration will use ClearCo competencies.

You do not need to create entirely new templates unless you want to make additional changes outside of the competency migration.

Will historical review and scorecard data be preserved?

Yes. Historical data will be retained. Any existing scorecards, reviews, and previously captured competency data will remain available after the migration. This includes:

  • Completed reviews
  • In-progress reviews
  • Existing historical reporting data
Will competencies still work with interview guides?

Yes. Competencies will continue to integrate with interview guides in scorecards. You can still:

  • Use competencies in interview guides.
  • Edit competency content within scorecards as needed.

No changes are expected to this functionality after the migration.

Will I need to update my templates?

Not necessarily. The migration does not change your scorecard or review template structure. It only changes which competencies populate for newly created scorecards and reviews after the migration. You may choose to review your templates after migration if you want to make additional updates, but this is not required.

1b. Self-guided mapping

If you prefer more control, your team can manage the mapping directly.

  • You manually select which new ClearCo competencies align with each HRSG competency.
  • You update the associated Roles yourself.
  • HRSG competencies are clearly tagged, so you can easily distinguish them from custom competencies. (click image to enlarge)

This option allows you to leverage the new library on your own timeline, but your team is responsible for the mapping and for updating Roles. To update Roles and associated competencies, follow the steps in Updating roles and competencies at the end of this article.

Option 2: Use a combination of custom competencies and new competencies

You can mix and match the new ClearCo competency library with custom competencies that reflect areas unique to your organization.

If you plan to use both:

  • We recommend replacing HRSG competencies with custom competencies first.
  • This approach allows ClearCo to automatically map any remaining HRSG competencies when you’re ready to transition to the new library.

To replace HRSG competencies with custom competencies:

  • Identify HRSG competencies using the competency tags.
  • Decide whether to use an existing custom competency or create a new one.
  • Create the custom competency, if needed.
  • Update any Roles that previously used the HRSG competency.

Note:

Remove the HRSG competency before adding the custom competency. This ensures only one competency is associated with the Role and prevents both from generating on Scorecards and Reviews.

Option 3: Replace HRSG competencies with custom competencies

If you want full control over your competency framework, you can replace all HRSG competencies with custom competencies.

With this approach:

  • You create custom competencies to replace each HRSG competency.
  • Once the custom competencies are ready, you manually update the relevant Roles.
  • We recommend reviewing Create a Custom Competency on creating custom competencies.

Note:

As with other options, remove the HRSG competency before adding the custom competency to a Role. This prevents duplicate competencies from appearing on Scorecards and Reviews.

Option 4. Continue using HRSG competencies by contracting directly with HRSG

If you’d like to explore continued access beyond July 1, 2026, please reach out to Zoe Wang at zwang@hrsg.ca for more information.
