Auto-grading questions are a great way to automatically grade candidates based on their qualifications before application review and interviewing. Setting up auto-grading questions will help you more easily identify your A-Players. This is a great alternative to knockout questions, which will remove unqualified candidates from the process altogether.

What are Auto-Grading Questions
Auto-grading questions allow you to add questions to an application and grade a candidate based on the answers that they have submitted. This allows you to highlight A+ Players as soon as they apply, saving time to prioritize players that are more qualified. Knockout questions eliminate candidates, while Auto-grading scores and categorizes candidates with the added ability to assign workflow assignments based on the grades.

Adding Auto-Grading to Applications
Rules are applied in the order they are listed. Rules at the bottom of the list will override those above. To get the correct outcome, users should arrange the rules in reverse order.
In the screenshot below, as it is displayed with the rules, all candidates with a section score of 9 or higher will be graded as "C":
The correct order should be the below.
- Section score is Less Than 9 Grade to X
- Section score is Greater Than or Equal To 9 Grade to C
- Section score is Greater Than or Equal To 14 Grade to B
- Section score is Greater Than or Equal To 17 Grade to A
You will want to add the appropriate questions to a separate section in your process. In this example, we will add a Screening section to the Initial Stage of the application.
Pro-tip: Auto-grading questions can be added anywhere in either the Initial or Detailed sections of the application. They cannot be added to the Pre-Screen section, which houses only knockout questions.
- Once the questions have been added Save and Exit from your application.
- On the Apply Process List page, click Rules on the application process in question.
- Use the dropdown menu in the upper left-hand corner of the Rules page to select the section you just created.
- Click Add under Rules. In this example, we will use a single question and use the "Options" condition.
- Since we want to grade based on candidate selection, the Operation will be "Equal."
- The Value should be set to whichever selection you would like to grade. For this example, we would like them to be graded if they select 30-50 or 50+.
- Finally, select the grade you would like the candidate to receive upon selecting this option under Action.
- You can add more rules by clicking Add. For example, we can add another rule that says if they pick 0-15, they will get graded a C.
- What should happen here: if a candidate selects the option "0-2," when they have completed their application, the system should automatically grade them to a C.
- In this example, we will also want to set rules for grading candidates to A and B. You can click Add to repeat the process for the other selections.
- When you are finished, make sure you scroll to the bottom and click Save.
- Before assigning this application to a live requisition, make sure you test it!
