Using Tags in ClearCompany
What are Tags?
Tags are similar to a custom label and are commonly used to add descriptors to a candidate or user(s) and used in a Search action within the Recruiting or Performance platforms. These tags can be organized in a single non-relational list or in a hierarchal order made up of Parent and Child tags.
Users with the User Admin permission can create and manage the custom tags available for an organization.
F.A.Q.
Tags are used as search and filter criteria in Candidate Search and Talent Communities. They can be used to label candidates based on:
- Specific skill sets or experience
- Roles they may be well-suited for
- Locations they are qualified to work at
Tags appear in:
- Talent Communities and Advanced Search/Saved Search under Criteria.
- Roles and location exist as separate search criteria
- Custom tags can be found using the Tags filter
- They also show up on the candidate/prospect profile under the Potential Fit For section.
Both, prospects and candidates get tagged automatically based on the positions they apply to. For example:
- If Gina applies to the Customer Success Manager role in San Francisco, the system automatically assigns her the:
- Customer Success Manager role tag
- San Francisco location tag.
- They can also be tagged manually.
- If she's interested in working for more than one office location, more locations tags can be added manually.
- In doing so, Gina will now show up as a prospect in Talent Communities whose criteria include the Customer Success Manager team lead role and the other office locations.
Custom Tags are manually added to the candidate profiles. For example: we have a tag set up for French Speakers - when a candidate is proficient in French, we tag them as such so they show up in Talent Communities and appear as a potential fit. Learn more: Custom Tags.
Right now, you can only tag one candidate at a time.
Managing Tags
Updates made to an existing tag will be automatically reflected on the historically tagged candidates or users. If you do not want historical values to change, consider creating a new tag instead.

By default, new tags will be created in a single non-relational list. Alternatively, they can be organized in a Parent/Child structure.
- From the Tags page, click the Tiles tab.
- Locate the tag that should represent the Top-level or Parent tag and identify the tag(s) that should represent the second-level or Child tag(s).
-
Click, drag, and drop the child tags to the Parent Tag tile.
- Repeat the process until all child tags are reorganized. You can also use the Edit Tag page to assign a Parent to individual tags.
- Navigate to Tools and select Setup.
-
Under the Organization Setup column, select Users.
-
Search for and select the user you wish to assign tag(s) to.
-
On the mini-profile that appears, click Edit User's Tags.
-
Use the search function to find and add the tags this user should be assigned to.
-
To remove a tag from a user, click the X icon.
- When you're done, click Save.
