ADP WFN Bi-Directional: New Hire Transfer V1 vs V2

Follow

This article provides a comparison between the most recent ClearCompany/ADP new hire data transfer integration and the previous available transfer.

Background

When ClearCompany first launched our Bi-Directional connector in the spring of 2019, this came with a new hire transfer that sends an In Progress hire to ADP. ADP has since released a V2 of this integration which we have now developed support for and are making available for clients to migrate to.

Terms

Some terms which are helpful to know

API
Application Programming Interface, a software intermediary which allows two applications to communicate with each other. In the context of ClearCompany/ADP integrations, we use a variety of APIs offered by ADP to transfer and receive data to and from their system
In Progress API (Applicant Onboard V1)
This is V1 of the new hire transfer which came with or Bi-Directional Connector. Internally referenced at ClearCompany and with clients as the In Progress API, but the official ADP title is Applicant Onboard V1
Applicant Onboard V2

Why the change in terminology?

Whereas before there were differences in terms for the same API (At ClearCompany: In Progress, at ADP: Applicant Onboard V1), moving forward we are using the same terminology used by ADP to allow both internal teams and clients greater autonomy in understanding what methods we use to transfer data in between our systems.

Primary Differences

The main differences between V1 and V2 are

  • Multiple custom templates: V2 can send to multiple custom hiring templates (V1 could only send to a single custom template titled “Applicant Onboard”)
    • Along with the above, V2 supports sending Canadian and International hires
  • State Tax: V2 supports sending state tax data which was not previously available
    • Please see here for further information on available state tax data to transfer
  • Hire Type: V2 can send either an In Progress Hire to be completed from a hire template in ADP, or a Completed Hire directly into Workforce Now
    • Please Note: In Progress is the default hire type for our integrations and is the recommended method for transferring new hires to ADP. This is because, when sending a completed hire, ADP requires a broader range of fields and more strictly validates the data. This in turn means there are more opportunities for data inaccuracy to cause a transfer failure with a completed hire
  • Rehire: V2 is bundled with ADP Rehire functionality. For more information on ADP Rehire, please see here
