Ensuring your Organization Chart and company structure are accurate is important for many reasons. It's especially important before launching a Performance Review and when utilizing a Cascading Approval Process in Requisitions or Offer Letters. Those with User Admin permission can complete an audit of existing users to ensure the company hierarchy and structure are correct.

CEO Strategic Alignment Overview
The CEO Strategic Alignment user can manage the Company's goals, in addition to viewing all Goals created by employees in the system (including private and otherwise restricted goals), and modify Goal Settings. Keep in mind:
- Only one user at the organization can be assigned as Strategic Alignment.
- Alignment only associates with the immediate supervisor. Through the hierarchy, if the hierarchy is correct, everybody should be aligning with the Strategic Alignment goals.
- The Strategic Alignment user should also not be assigned a Supervisor in order to maintain the correct user hierarchy, which can impact Recruiting, Performance, and Reporting.
Assign Strategic Alignment
- Click Tools, then Setup.
- Click Users.
- Use the Search for an employee field to find your CEO, and click on their name.
- Click Edit user.
- Next to Designate as the organization’s CEO - Strategic Alignment, confirm they have the box checked.
- Only one user can be designated as the Strategic Alignment. When checked, users have to confirm the change.
- When done, click Update User Details.
The Strategic Alignment can only be assigned to one user. For the user, the Supervisor field must be left blank.
Auditing User Reporting Structure
With your Strategic Alignment user correctly assigned, next check for any users that are misaligned in their hierarchy. The User Setup page has pre-determined sorting categories that enable you to quickly check the three common user hierarchy issues.
- In User Setup (Tools > Setup > Users), click Active under filter employees.
-
Under Show Only:
- Check Users misaligned to Strategic Alignment - this will display the users not currently aligned. Actions include assigning a title, role, or supervisor.
- Check Users reporting to deleted or terminated supervisors - this will display users that currently are reporting to a user that is deleted or terminated.
- Check Users in a Circular Reporting Structure - this will display users that have the supervisor as the direct report.
- If users are returned when selecting this filter, review who is listed as the Supervisor for your employees. Commonly, the circular issue results when your Strategic Alignment has a lower-level supervisor listed on their employee profile.
- If users are returned when selecting this filter, review who is listed as the Supervisor for your employees. Commonly, the circular issue results when your Strategic Alignment has a lower-level supervisor listed on their employee profile.
If no users are listed, great news, there are no problems identified by the system for that hierarchy issue type!
Confirming Hierarchy
- Click Company, then People.
- Click Organization Chart.
- Click through the employees on the Org Chart and ensure that the hierarchy is correct.
