Performance Data Walls restrict Performance data access. For large organizations, user permissions can sometimes grant too much access to administrator roles. Performance Data Walls is a feature that solves this problem by restricting Admin data access based on employee segments, such as departments. What are Performance Data Walls?

HR Admins will be able to assign specific data groups to view specific employee performance data. This will also allow them greater oversight and the ability to restrict data access to only select and designated employees and data groups.

How are Performance Data Walls used?

Data Walls Used
  1. Assign each employee to a single Data Group Assignment (where this employee’s data will sit).
  2. Provide Data Group Access to admins to one or more Data Groups (which areas of data this admin can see).
  3. Update employee Data Group Assignments in bulk via CSV export, make bulk edits, and re-upload.
  4. Apply Data Walls technology to all private data housed in Performance.

Performance Data Walls do not inherently restrict visibility to everything in Talent Development (although role permissions and relationship-based visibility still gate data). Data Walls do not restrict data visibility for admins with the proper permissions from data emerging from:

  1. Score Distribution (with Performance Data Walls enabled, Score Distribution is disabled)
  2. 9-Box (with Performance Data Walls enabled, the 9-Box report is disabled)
  3. Some APIs
  4. Goals
  5. Tasks
  6. Shout-outs
  7. User identity (First name, last name)
  8. Survey Analytics

How do I assign a user to performance data walls?

Once your data walls are established, you'll want to create data group assignments. This task is done on a user-by-user basis or with a bulk upload. In the Edit User page, you will see one option which is the assignments (where to store this employee's data), and option two which is the data group access (what access to give this admin).

Assign Assignment

Each user will have a data assigned to a specific data group. Only admins will have access to the specific data groups.

  1. Navigate to Tools>Setup >Users (under Organization Setup). Users.png
  2. Click on the user you'd like to assign a data group to.
  3. Click Edit User on the window that pops up. Edit User.png
  4. Scroll to the Assigned Data Group, above the username.Assigned Data Group.png
  5. Click Change to assign a group or make a change.Select the Data Group.png
  6. Select the data group assignment you would like this employee to be a part of.
  7. Click Update User Details to save these changes. Update User Details.png
Assign Data Access to Admin

This will give the admin access to the data group they are given access to.

  1. Navigate to Tools>Setup >Users (under Organization Setup). Users.png
  2. Click on the user you'd like to assign a data group to.
  3. Click Edit User on the window that pops up. Edit User.png
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the Edit User window to the Data Access section. Check the box next to the data group this user should have access to.Data Group Access.png
  5. Click Update User Details to save these changes. Update User Details.png
Bulk Update Users

The .csv export from Data Walls only lists employees and their Data Group Assignments. You will not be able to assign a Data Group Admin.

  1. Navigate to Tools>Setup>Configure Data Groups. Data Groups.png
  2. On the right-hand side, click Update User Assignments. Update User.png
  3. If you have a CSV file already you can select to upload, or to see all the users and their current Data Group Assignments click Export Users to CSV.Export Users.png
  4. You will receive an email or from the Setup Page select Secure File Center.Secure File Center.png
  5. Navigate to System Generated Files.System.png
  6. Download the User Export file
  7. Make adjustments to the file with an application like Excel.
  8. Under Configure Data Groups, now you can select Upload CSV.Upload CSV.png
  9. You will receive a successful message once the CSV has been uploaded. Success.png

Note that users and groups cannot be added. This bulk update is designed to let you assign current employees to existing groups.

Performance Data Walls F.A.Q.s

Are data walls applied to the standard performance reports?

Yes! Standard performance reports are restricted by Data Walls. An admin must have Data Group Access to the data groups to be pulled into the report. Data Walls will also limit access to the data download export that is available when downloading results.

If a manager covers employees in two different data groups, can they still review both employees if they lack Performance Admin permission?
Yes, even without Performance Admin permission or Data Group Access, a manager can review employees from multiple data groups. Relationship rules supersede Data Walls.
Will Performance setup assets have data walls?
No, Performance setup assets such as review templates will not be restricted by Data Walls.
Will all performance admins be able to see all performance cycles despite data walls?
Performance Admin should not see any differences related to a review setup and they should see all cycle information. Performance admin visibility will be limited to their respective data group's review subjects.
